Functional and non functional wares will be explored through a variety of hand building techniques. We will cover pinch pots, slab building, coil vessels, and hollow forms. Surface design, underglaze, textures, impressions, intaglio, scgraffito, wax resist, and basic glazing will be covered. Feel free to bring in your own ideas and designs.

Tuesday
6:30pm - 9:30pm

Wheel: erin yuasa

This session’s class will mainly include wheel thrown and altered vessels for food and for plants. Techniques will combine wheel and handbuilding skills and tools, including making some of our own tools. Silhouettes and surfaces will range from soft and organic to hard and geometric, with lots of opportunity for playful and dramatic clay texture and glaze layering. And I always bring in a variety of free plants for you to put into your new plant pots at the end of the session!

Clay Recommendation for Beginning Students:
Any clay body with medium grog and good plasticity, such as Soldate and Bmix with grog. Some recycled clay is good too, for a few specific things such as for bisque toolmaking and for making pieces with a rougher, more organic surface quality. Lighter colored clays offer wider glaze color options. Darker colored clays are especially beautiful when exposed and unglazed. Order 1 bag only to start.
